How do I get referred?

Pet Owner FAQ's

If you and your pet have been referred to us, please find below a number of frequently asked questions that will hopefully help answer any queries. If, however, you do have further questions please do not hesitate to contact us and we will do our very best to support.

  • All referrals must be made by your own veterinary practice to ensure the correct transfer of clinical information. Following receipt of this information we will contact you directly to confirm arrangements.

  • When you come to see us for an appointment we may ask you to not feed your pet from 8pm the night before, as sometimes we may need to carry out further investigation.

If you are coming for surgery then you must not feed your pet after 8pm, water is fine throughout the night. Please ensure your pet is free from dirt and has been out to the toilet before your admit appointment

  • You will be advised when booking your appointment whether it is likely that your pet will be hospitalised. Many animals visiting us for surgical procedures will be admitted for one night, sometimes longer, to allow careful monitoring during the initial stages of recovery.

  • We can arrange for you to visit, this needs to be prearranged, there may be times when the vet feels this may hinder your pets recovery and may ask for you to not visit.

  • It is often necessary to clip the hair, this is done to collect blood samples, to administer intravenous fluid therapy and prepare the area for surgery.

  • A full estimate of costs will be provided at initial consultation and full payment will be required at time of treatment.

Direct insurance claims will be considered, but only following a pre-authorisation process which can take up to 10 working days. Please note not all insurance companies provide pre-authorisations.

  • We can offer Carefree Credit to those wishing to spread the cost. Carefree offer an interest free loan and we can start the process for you.

  • We will provide you with written post-operative care guidance, and we will communicate all medical notes with your referring vet, you can of course contact us after treatment to gain advice.

Please note that Highland Vet Referrals is open Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, if you require any support outside those hours you should contact your own vet who will be able to support you.
